And what is a TV show if not a form of art? What is art? How does art speak to us? Why has it been so important throughout human history, from the time when people drew animals on the walls of caves? Is art not one of the most human experiences there are? One of those things that set us apart, one of those things made by humans for humans?
Why are there songs that I can listen to sixty times on repeat in a row, and others where I hit ‘next’ the moment I hear the first couple of notes? Why have there been books that were an absolute torture for me to read (usually because I had to for school) and then there were those that consumed me as much as I consumed them? Where the book never left my hands, where, “Just one more chapter,” turned into twenty more chapters? Why are there movies I’ve seen so many times I’ve lost the count, and those that I’ve never been able to get through? Why are there shows I couldn’t help but marathon, and those where I could go my whole life without seeing another episode, regardless of the twists and cliffhangers put in place to keep me watching?
Why do we connect to some and not the others? Art speaks to us. It is made to draw a reaction, to awaken an emotion, to make us think. And when it’s just right… Well, then it speaks to some deep human experience within us and we can’t help but be drawn to it.
It’s supposed to be an escape, isn’t it? For those two, six, eight hours, we are in another world. One where our problems don’t exist, where we are the heroes of a different story, where we get the front seats to an adventure that would be impossible in the real world.
So why is this particular type of art important to me? Why is this a wonderful escape? Because for all the art out there, for all the millennia of it, it still hasn’t scratched the surface on certain types of human experiences. This being one of them. And it just so happens to also be mine.
And also, you’re right that it’s a fictional story for entertainment. It’s damn good entertainment, though. That is also reason enough to fangirl one’s butt over it.
Also, keep in mind that Tumblr is an environment where everyone gets to be all over the place because of its nature: anonymity, the ability to create our own little safe bubbles, to surround ourselves with people whose interests coincide with ours. It’s a place where we can afford to speak our minds and just go all out - an escape in itself. Most people that do freak out all over their blogs daily don’t actually do the same thing in real life, you know. ;) That’s kinda the point. :)
no offense but i hate the art ho movement
more specifically i hate how the art hoe movement/aesthetic has become thin white people with expensive backpacks and fancy art supplies
Writing is an underestimated art,
you are painting colorful images
in people’s minds by using words
of black and white.
reblog if you think animation, photography, theatre, music, image editing, video editing, and creative writing are all forms of art
the amount of people that think these aren’t art forms angers me
